WHO WE ARE
Grace Presbyterian Church, (PCUSA) was established in 1968 in the newly created town of Spring Hill, FL. A designed, planned community developed with homes, schools, businesses, parks and open spaces, and churches. The Tampa Bay Presbytery obtained the grant for a parcel set aside for a house of worship. As the community grew, the church flourished. With a dedicated pastor membership increased from an initial 13 to 800 in the late 90’s.
The original building was multi-purpose, serving as a House of Worship, Sunday School classrooms, library, and Fellowship Hall. It was a hub of activity, being used for not only church programs but school and community functions, as well. Through the years it has grown to a campus which includes a large sanctuary adorned with beautiful stained-glass windows and a new organ, attached fellowship hall with a recently upgraded commercial kitchen, choir room, nursery, and additional small room, chapel, office building, and two buildings suitable for classrooms. One building currently houses Grace’s Closet, the Food Pantry, and provisions for the Weekend Blessing ministry (weekend meals for children). Located on six acres on a main thoroughfare, it is a beautiful facility which can’t be missed.
As St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church in our neighboring town of Hudson faced the obstacles of declining membership, loss of strong leadership and dwindling financial support, and ultimately COVID, they found it beneficial to find a new way to preserve their church family. St. Mark’s approached Grace seeking a merger. This action was approved by Tampa Bay Presbytery on June 9, 2022. All members uniting as one body in Christ.
Spring Hill, located 10 miles from the gulf on the Nature Coast, is attractive to many retirees. With close proximity to the interstate, quick access and an easy commute to Tampa/St. Pete it also appeals to younger families looking for an area with a more affordable cost of living. Entertainment and vacation attractions are accessible.
Currently our church has 220 members and 11 affiliate members. With snow-bird attendees and other faithful friends and visitors, the average attendance is between 100-125. Most of the congregation ranges in age between the 60-90. The congregation prefers a blended service of worship, leaning heavily on the side of reverent and traditional. Music is an important component, and we are blessed to have a talented staff of organist, violinist, pianist, and bell choir leader. A new organ was purchased within the last year. The worshippers enjoy singing and participation.
Our members are welcoming and caring. Special need requests are generously supported. The Food Pantry, Grace’s Closet, the Weekend Blessing ministry (weekend meals for children), handmade quilts for the newborns at Oak Hill Hospital, a bicycle ministry and Thanksgiving baskets for the needy enable us to reach out to those in need. We also provide financial assistance to missionaries.
We eagerly anticipate a bright future for our church as we worship and spread the teachings of Christ to the community. The Holy Spirit has great things in store for us, calling us to demonstrate His love through our words and actions.
